The inhabitants of the Cirque de Mafate, nestled in the heart of the mountainous terrain of Reunion Island, live in one of the most remote places on the island. Crossing this difficult terrain was very complicated and dangerous. Sometimes even impossible during heavy rains or cyclones, which caused the isolation of the inhabitants of the Cirque de Mafate. The authorities (National Forestry Office - ONF) therefore ordered the construction of a bridge.
This bridge will allow crossings even when water levels reach what is known as the Q100 level - a flood that statistically only occurs once every 100 years - while providing a clearance height of approximately 5 metres below the structure.
Other features of this gateway include:
- Effective width: 1.20 m.
- Span between support axes: 28 m.
- relative to the longitudinal axis of the structure.
